Dr. Popoola is a Nanobiotechnologist with expertise in animal physiological modeling for human drug prospecting/discovery, genetic resources management and gamete manipulation for Assisted reproduction, cryoconservation of gamete and gene banking. He has expertise in molecular bioimaging and biophotonics for monitoring of drug delivery at cellular levels and optimization of physiological functions of biological systems. He was a Visiting Scholar/Post Doc Research Fellow at Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences, Mississippi State University (MSU), Starkville, USA in 2017 & 2019 where he joined the Biophotonics research group. He was a Bill and Melinda Gate foundation’s traveller on the invitation of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as a participant at International Animal Biotechnology Regulation workshop held at University of Virginia, June 2017. He later joined the Research Team at Recombenetics Inc., Saint Paul, Minnesota to study the use of gene editing tools in the modeling of Cancer therapeutics using a swine model in 2017.  He was invited to join team of Researcher as a Visiting Scholar at Mississippi State University in 2019 to model the use of livestock semen as drug delivery vehicles and the interaction with specific nanoparticles using bioimaging techniques to monitor physiological functions and pathways in vivo.

Previously, he was a Visiting researcher at The Institute of Organic farming and farm Animals biodiversity, Wels, Austria in 2016 working with the team in charge Austrian National livestock Gene bank led by the National Coordinator, Animal Genetic Resources,(AnGR). He was hosted by the Genetic Austria group- the leading livestock semen production and Distribution Company in Austria. He was a Post doc researcher at the University of Molise, Campobasso, Italy in 2015. He was hosted at FAO Headquarters in Rome where he made presentation on the Status of AnGR in Nigeria.

He worked briefly in Osun State Government, Nigeria public service in 2006 and was later employed as Livestock Development Officer by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development from 2006 to 2010. He moved to National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA), Federal Ministry of Science & Technology, Abuja, Nigeria in 2010 and was later promoted to the position of Chief Scientific Officer in the Department of Bio entrepreneurship and extension services and later became the Project Lead, AnGR Lab, Agricultural Biotechnology Department. He was appointed the Chair, NABDA Scientific Seminar series in 2014 – 2017, Institutional Technology Promotion Focal officer in 2015 and Pioneer Head, Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC) of the UN Nations World intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2017.

He was an alumnus of Federal University of Technology, Minna, and University of Ilorin, Nigeria for his degrees from Bachelor through Masters and PhD from 1996 – 2006. The PhD research work was on the Effect of egg yolk plasma form different domesticated avian species on the Cryopreservation of rabbit semen and fertility trials post thaw. He is a Fellow, Institute of Chartered Economist, Nigeria, Fellow, Development Practice Academy, Fellow, Chartered Institute of Corporate Mentoring and Coaching, Nigeria and a Certified Commercial Diplomat, City of London, UK. He is the Convener, Business to Business (B2B) Nigeria since 2015 among other Science to Business leadership roles.

Presently, he is the National Project Manager, Nigeria Covid19 Research Consortium (NCRC) and Coordinator of the Resource Mobilization Arm (RMA) of the consortium. He serves as the Technical Assistant on Research and Development Matters to the Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). His research interests are in the areas of animal –human interface and zoonosis of SARS – COV-2, social science research of COVID 19 Pandemic and Candidate Therapeutics.
